There’s no mistaking the political leanings of Charles Kireker’s household.
He and his wife, Marie, are bundlers for the Obama campaign. Together, they’ve raised more than half a million dollars.
Kireker also raised money for Obama’s 2008 run and made a $50,000 contribution to American Bridge 21st Century, which does opposition research for the left.
He and his mother, Janet Kireker, are donors to Priorities USA Action, the main super PAC supporting the president. And his son, Bennett, a marketing specialist for the NBA, gave $8,000 to Obama Victory Fund.
Kireker, known as Charlie, is a co-founder of FreshTracks Capital. Based in Middlebury, VT, the venture capital firm invests in startups, most of them in New England.
It has several stakes in green energy, a sector encouraged by the Obama White House.
The firm’s portfolio includes investments in companies that make solar-powered lighting and performance-monitoring systems for alternative energy technologies.
We find no evidence of FreshTracks investments in companies that have received of Department of Energy loans, a frequent target of Obama’s critics.
Kireker’s company biography neglects to mention a tumultuous period, in which he oversaw the shutdown of Air America, a liberal talk-radio network.
Founded in 2004, the network filed for bankruptcy and then ceased broadcasting during his time as chairman.
