But DC Comics, the originator of superhero serials about Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, is indirectly tied to the feminist magazine first published in 1971 as an insert to New York magazine

DC Comics was the originator of the character of millionaire orphan Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, now being reprised by actor Christian Bale in “The Dark Knight.”

Bale’s late father, David Bale, was the South-African-born entrepreneur who married Ms. Magazine co-founder Gloria Steinem in 2000, after meeting her at a pro-abortion rights rally in Los Angeles the prior year. “He called himself a feminist 20 years before I even met him.” Steinem told the London Telegraph. It was Bale’s third marriage and Steinem’s first.

The couple remained married until Bale died of brain lymphoma in December, 2003.
